Drop Philosophy — The Three Zones
Every drop in PUBG Mobile falls into one of three buckets: hot, warm, or cold. Knowing which is which — and when to pick each one — is really the whole foundation of smart landing decisions. I went through over 8,000 ranked matches in FragTrack's database to build a clear picture of what each drop type actually delivers in survival rate, kill potential, and rank point efficiency.
Hot drops (3+ contesting squads) sit at a 34% average survival rate, but the kill potential is real if you make it out. These suit practiced squads warming up their mechanics, not casual pushes. Warm drops (1-2 contesting squads) are the sweet spot — 67% survival with steady kill opportunities. Cold drops (0 contesting squads) push survival to 91% at the cost of early kills, which makes them the right call when you're purely pushing rank through placement.
Match your drop to what you're actually trying to accomplish that session. Chasing rank points and a better KD? Stick to warm drops. Prepping for scrims or a tournament? Throw in some hot drops to sharpen your early-game reflexes. Still dying too early too often? Go cold until your mid-game rotations stop feeling like guesswork.
Erangel — The Classic Battleground
Erangel is still the most-played map in PUBG Mobile, and its drop spots have been picked apart by competitive players for years now. Between urban Pochinki and the isolated island compounds, there's genuinely something here for every playstyle. Here's my breakdown of the zones that matter.
Hot Drops: Pochinki, School, Military Base
Pochinki attracts 4-6 squads per match on average and has the highest early-game kill count of any Erangel location. The town's dense two-story buildings create unpredictable close-quarters fights where shotgun and SMG play dominates. School is the second-most contested location with 3-5 squads, offering excellent loot density but punishing RNG — if you land in a room without a weapon, you will die before you reach the next room. Military Base on the island draws 3-4 squads and rewards the winner with military-grade loot, but requires a vehicle or a long swim to rotate off the island, which creates vulnerability.
Warm Drops: Rozhok, Georgopol Containers, Mylta
Rozhok is my personal favorite warm drop on Erangel. It typically draws 1-2 squads, offers excellent loot spread across its multi-level buildings, and sits at a central map position that makes rotations to nearly any zone feasible. Georgopol Containers is another strong option — the container maze creates unique vertical combat opportunities, and the nearby warehouse complex provides backup loot if the initial fight goes long. Mylta on the eastern edge draws occasional contesting squads and offers easy access to the Mylta Power vehicle spawns.
Cold Drops: Lipovka, Primorsk, Sosnovka Island Compounds
Lipovka in the northeast provides safe, consistent loot with rare contesting squads. Primorsk on the southeast coast is similarly isolated but offers fewer buildings, meaning you need to loot efficiently and rotate quickly. The small compounds on Sosnovka Island (outside Military Base) are the safest drop on Erangel — almost never contested, with guaranteed vehicle spawns at the nearby bridge checkpoint.
Miramar — Desert Loot Routes
Miramar is the biggest map in the game, and it punishes a bad drop harder than any other. Long rotations, thin cover between compounds, and that brutal sun glare mean every landing decision actually matters here. Loot quality also swings wildly — some compounds are stacked, others barely arm a single player.
Hot Drops: Hacienda del Patrón, Prison, Pecado
Hacienda del Patrón is the most contested location on Miramar, drawing 4-5 squads per match. Its multi-level indoor layout and rooftop access create complex fights where audio awareness is everything. The winner of Hacienda is almost guaranteed end-game quality loot — level-3 gear, multiple DMRs, and enough attachments for the entire squad. Prison is similarly contested with 3-4 squads and rewards winners with insane loot density in a compact area. Pecado's fighting arena and surrounding buildings attract 3-4 squads and offer the fastest path to high kill counts if you survive the initial chaos.
Warm Drops: Los Leones Outskirts, Campo Militar, San Martin
The outskirts of Los Leones (the warehouse district east of the main city) is an excellent warm drop with 1-2 contesting squads and direct vehicle access to the main road. Campo Militar's northern compound cluster offers consistent loot and occasional contesting squads, with excellent rotation options toward the center of the map. San Martin on the western edge draws 1-2 squads and provides good cover with its multi-level buildings.
Cold Drops: Oasis, Valle del Silencio, La Bendita
Oasis is the safest drop on Miramar — almost never contested, with excellent loot spread across its compound cluster and guaranteed vehicle spawns at the nearby road. Valle del Silencio in the northeast is similarly isolated but requires a longer initial rotation. La Bendita in the southwest offers the safest loot on the map but leaves you with the longest rotation path to the final zone — carry at least two vehicles if you drop here.
"On Miramar, your drop choice determines your entire match trajectory more than any other map. A bad drop here means a 3-kilometer rotation through open desert with minimal cover. Choose wisely, and always confirm your vehicle spawn before committing to a compound." — Mira Nakamura
Sanhok — High-Risk Jungle
Sanhok is small, thick with foliage, and produces the most chaotic early game in PUBG Mobile, full stop. At roughly a quarter of Erangel's size, squads land right on top of each other. Loot density is the highest of any map per square meter — but so is your odds of landing next to someone else.
Hot Drops: Bootcamp, Paradise Resort, Ruins
Bootcamp is the most contested location in all of PUBG Mobile, drawing 5-7 squads per match. The combination of its central location, dense building layout, and reputation as the "best loot on the map" makes it a magnet for aggressive squads. If you survive Bootcamp, you will have as many kills as most players get in three full matches. Paradise Resort is similarly contested with 4-5 squads, offering a multi-level hotel complex where vertical play dominates. Ruins attracts 3-4 squads and offers the most predictable early fight on the map — every squad lands in the same central courtyard, making weapon RNG the primary determinant of who survives.
Warm Drops: Ha Tinh, Khao, Mongnai
Ha Tinh on the western edge of Sanhok is an excellent warm drop with 1-2 contesting squads, good loot density, and a predictable rotation path along the western ridge. Khao in the center-east attracts occasional contesting squads and offers strong rotation options toward the map's frequent central zones. Mongnai in the north provides safe loot with the option to third-party fights happening at nearby Bootcamp.
Cold Drops: Cave Compound, Eastern Beach Cabins, Southern Pier
The Cave Compound (the underground bunker system) is the safest drop on Sanhok — rarely contested and offering excellent loot in a compact, defensible space. The Eastern Beach Cabins are similarly safe but require immediate vehicle acquisition for mid-game rotations. The Southern Pier and its surrounding huts are the ultimate rat drop: almost never contested, with water cover for emergency escapes.
Livik — Fast-Paced Rotations
Livik is the smallest map in the game, built for fast 15-minute matches with near-constant action. Everything sits within 90 seconds of something else, so third parties are always a threat, start to finish. It rewards aggressive play and quick rotations far more than the bigger maps do.
Hot Drops: Midstein, Glacial Mine, Mount Kwen
Midstein is Livik's most contested location, drawing 3-4 squads per match. The compound's central location and multi-level buildings create extended fights that often attract third parties from all directions. Glacial Mine offers unique vertical combat in its mining shafts and attracts 2-3 squads. Mount Kwen on the eastern side draws 2-3 squads and rewards winners with height advantage over the rest of the map.
Warm Drops: Fish Town, Sawmill, Cabin Cluster (Northwest)
Fish Town on Livik's central coast is an excellent warm drop with 1-2 contesting squads and direct access to the map's central zone. Sawmill attracts occasional squads and rewards winners with excellent loot density. The Cabin Cluster in the northwest offers safe loot with 0-1 contesting squads and easy vehicle access.
Cold Drops: Eastern Waterfall Cabins, Southern Lighthouse, Remote Barns
The Eastern Waterfall Cabins are Livik's safest drop — almost never contested, with excellent cover from the waterfall terrain. The Southern Lighthouse and its surrounding compound offer safe solo loot but limited squad loot density. The Remote Barns scattered across Livik's outer edges are the ultimate safe drops, but require immediate rotation toward the center zone which is often tight on Livik.

Loot Tier System Explained
Those loot tier ratings up in the comparison table come from FragTrack's AI running through over 12,000 match screenshots. We rank loot quality by how likely you are to find specific gear in your first 90 seconds on the ground. S-tier means 90%+ odds of level-3 gear, a DMR or sniper, and full AR attachments. A-tier is 70-90%, B-tier is 50-70%, and anything below that is C-tier.
Here's the catch though: loot tier and match success don't track together as closely as you'd think. B-tier spots like Lipovka on Erangel consistently produce good KD outcomes, simply because the safety of the drop keeps you alive into the mid-game, where the real kill opportunities show up. The best loot on the map is worthless if you're dead before you fire a shot with it. Across a 100-match sample, players who picked B-tier cold drops over S-tier hot drops improved their average KD by 1.8 — not because the gear was better, but because they lived long enough to use it.

Contest Probability — When to Fight
Contest probability is simply the odds another squad lands where you're landing, and it's the single biggest driver of your early-game risk. Above 60% (hot), you have to win a fight to survive. Between 20-60% (warm), you get to choose whether to fight or slip away depending on how it looks. Below 20% (cold), you're looting in peace.
Across 15,000+ ranked matches, the pattern is pretty clear: the sweet spot for rank point gain sits at 25-45% contest probability. You get enough early fights to build kill momentum, and they're winnable often enough to actually pay off. Push past 60% and your win rate falls below 50% once third parties and loot RNG start working against you. Drop below 20% too often, though, and you risk hitting the mid-game without the kills to back up your placement points.
Let that contest probability column in the table above actually guide your drop picks. Pure survival-based rank climbing? Stay under 20%. Chasing KD improvement? Live in that 25-45% band. Warming up for scrims? That's exactly when you want the 60%+ spots.
Vehicle Strategy — Secure Your Ride
Vehicle spawns get overlooked way too often when picking a drop. A squad with wheels has a real edge over one on foot — faster rotations, angles the other team isn't expecting, and an easy out from the blue zone. Any competitive squad should be locking down a vehicle within the first 60 seconds of looting.
Spawn density changes a lot by map. On Erangel, road junctions and garage compounds are your best bet — the Georgopol bridge checkpoint, the road between Rozhok and School, and the Mylta Power garage all reliably produce vehicles. On Miramar, look near the big road intersections around Oasis, the Villa cluster, and the road between San Martin and Los Leones. Sanhok and Livik are much sparser, so on those two maps, land within 100 meters of a known spawn or just plan on rotating by foot.
Here's a rule worth adopting: if your drop doesn't have a confirmed vehicle spawn within 100 meters, send one squad member toward the nearest one while everyone else keeps looting. That parallel move saves 30-45 seconds of downtime and means you're never caught flat-footed on the first rotation.
Rotation Efficiency — Path to Victory
Rotation efficiency is about how fast and safely a spot lets you reach the next zone — and the best drops aren't always the ones with the best loot, they're the ones that let you move early without getting exposed. The Rotation Score in the table above rates each location 1-10 based on how many zones it's realistically close to, how much cover exists along the way, vehicle density, and elevation relative to the surrounding terrain.
Spots scoring 8 or higher — Rozhok, Los Leones Outskirts, Fish Town — show up in top-10 finishes again and again, because they let you set your own rotation timing instead of scrambling to react to the zone. Low-scoring spots like Bootcamp and Prison, on the other hand, tend to rack up kills but not placements — whoever wins the opening fight there usually ends up rotating late through open terrain.
When you're sizing up a drop, the real question isn't "how good is the loot" — it's "where will I actually be when Zone 3 closes?" If you can't answer that with confidence within a couple seconds of landing, pick somewhere else. The best players in this game aren't reacting to the zone. They're predicting it and positioning ahead of time.
Frequently Asked Questions
For beginners, isolated compounds on the edge of the map are best. Locations like Erangel's Lipovka, Miramar's Oasis, Sanhok's Cave Compound, and Livik's Waterfall Cabins provide safe loot with minimal contest risk and give you time to learn rotation fundamentals.
Miramar has the highest concentration of high-tier loot spawns, especially at Hacienda del Patrón, Prison, and the Oasis compound cluster. Sanhok also has excellent loot density due to its small size and high loot spawn rate per square meter.
Hot dropping is recommended only if you are practicing close-range mechanics or playing in a full coordinated squad. For consistent rank gain, warm drops with 1-2 contesting squads offer the best balance of early survival and kill potential.
For hot drops: Pochinki, School, or Military Base. For warm drops: Rozhok, Georgopol containers, or Mylta. For safe drops: Lipovka, Primorsk, or the island compounds near Sosnovka Bridge.
Vehicles spawn at fixed locations on every map. On Erangel, check road junctions and garage compounds. On Miramar, check the large road intersections and the Villa cluster. On Sanhok and Livik, vehicles are rarer — always land near a known spawn point if you need wheels.
